Exercise after armpit breast augmentation: the week-by-week return

By Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Işık Erdal, MD, FACS, FEBOPRAS · Recovery · 4 min read · Updated October 2026
Quick answer

Walking day 0; cardio and lower-body at week 4; swimming once scars are sealed (week 4–6); chest and upper-body training from week 6, built gradually and never to pain in the armpit. Sports bra for all exercise for 3 months.

Why chest and arms come last

The armpit closure stretches with every overhead and pulling movement, and the pocket's outer wall needs weeks to mature before lateral forces are safe. Chest exercises contract the muscle over the implant; too early, that moves the implant before the pocket has set.

The schedule

Days 0–14: walking, short and frequent; arms below shoulder height. Weeks 2–4: longer walks, gentle elevation, light lower-body movement. Week 4: cardio, lower-body strength, swimming once sealed. Week 6: upper-body and chest training rebuilt gradually, light weights, full range, never to pain in the armpit. Sports bra for all exercise for 3 months; high-impact sport in a supportive bra from month 3.

Signs you've done too much

New swelling on one side, pulling or burning in the armpit, bruising after a session, or an implant that feels like it has moved. Stop, support, and message with a photo. The recovery hub covers the surrounding weeks.
