Arm movement after transaxillary augmentation: the 14-day rules explained

By Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Işık Erdal, MD, FACS, FEBOPRAS · Recovery · 5 min read · Updated October 2026
Quick answer

For 10–14 days: nothing above shoulder height, nothing over 2–3 kg, no pulling, pushing or reaching behind. The armpit incision and the tunnel beneath it stretch with every overhead movement; two weeks of discipline buys a fine scar and a stable pocket.

What the rules protect

The armpit incision sits across skin that stretches with every overhead movement, and beneath it runs the tunnel to the pocket. Stretching early can open the tunnel (fluid, a widened scar) or let the implant drift laterally before the pocket's outer wall has healed. The soft band across the upper chest does the same job from the outside.

What counts

Reaching a high shelf; washing or drying hair overhead; pulling a suitcase; pushing up from a chair with your arms; opening heavy doors; carrying shopping; hugging with lifted arms; sleeping with arms overhead. Each is a small stretch; together they are the difference between a fine scar and a wide one.

How the restrictions lift

Days 0–10: below shoulder height, nothing over 2–3 kg. Days 10–14: gentle elevation to shoulder height. Weeks 2–3: progressive elevation as tolerated. Weeks 3–4: full range. Week 6: upper-body training rebuilt gradually. The recovery hub covers the surrounding weeks.
