Deodorant and shaving after the armpit incision: the rules, and why
No deodorant or antiperspirant for 2–3 weeks; stick before spray; no shaving for 3–4 weeks and electric first; waxing and laser after 3 months. Keep the crease clean and dry; silicone from week 2–3.
Why the armpit is different
A breast scar sits on dry, still skin; an armpit scar sits in a warm, moist crease that moves with every arm swing and is coated daily in chemicals. The rules exist because moisture slows sealing, friction widens scars and antiperspirant salts irritate an open line.
The timeline
Weeks 0–2: nothing on the crease; wash with the shower stream, pat dry, loose sleeves. Weeks 2–3: once sealed and reviewed — gentle stick or roll-on deodorant, silicone gel twice daily. Weeks 3–4: electric shaving when the scar is no longer tender; blades a little later. Month 3: waxing and laser hair removal, with the scar protected.
If the crease gets irritated
Red, itchy or weeping skin around the line — stop products, keep dry, message with a photo. Most irritation settles in days; infection is rare and treated early. The scar page has the full protocol.
