Can you see the armpit scar with arms raised? an honest answer

Quick answer

Arms down: no. Arms raised: yes — a fine line in the crease, pink for the first months and pale by a year. Placement in the deepest fold, running with the crease, and disciplined early care decide whether it reads as 'a crease' or 'a scar'.

Arms down

The deepest armpit crease closes on itself whenever the arm is at your side. A scar placed along it is covered by its own anatomy — in sleeveless tops, in bikinis, in photographs, at dinner. This is the state your armpit is in most of the day.

Arms raised

Reaching overhead, dancing, swimming strokes, yoga, holding a strap on a train: the crease opens and the line shows. In the first three months it is pink and can be seen from across a room by someone looking; by six months it is softening; by a year it is a pale line that reads as a crease to most observers. Patients who raise their arms for a living weigh this against a breast with no scar at all — the incision comparison frames it.

What decides the difference

Placement in the deepest fold, running with the crease rather than across it; a short incision (the funnel allows it); tension-free closure; and early care that respects a moist, mobile area — dry, friction-free, no deodorant or shaving until sealed, silicone from week 2–3. The scar page has the full protocol. The same operation with the incision placed forward of the crease produces a scar that shows in every tank top; ask to see where the line will be before surgery.

Honest framing

A patient who wants to be able to raise her arms with no mark anywhere does not have a scarless option; she has a choice of where the mark lives. Most patients choosing the armpit route describe the trade as easy; a minority prefer the fold and are told so without pressure.
