Implant size limits through the armpit: what fits, and why

Quick answer

Saline implants of any usual size pass easily (filled in place). Cohesive silicone passes through a funnel up to a practical limit that depends on gel firmness and your chest; larger silicone requests are offered through the fold. In practice your tissue corridor limits size before the route does.

The physics

A silicone implant must pass through the incision and along the tunnel intact. Firmer gels compress less; larger volumes need more compression. Beyond a point, delivery stresses the shell and the incision has to lengthen past the crease. Saline implants avoid the problem entirely — the empty shell passes easily and is filled in the pocket.

What the funnel changes

A sterile cone delivers the implant without hand contact, compressing it gently through a smaller incision — extending the practical silicone limit and reducing contamination. It is standard here for every silicone implant, by any route.

Why the corridor usually matters more

Base width, tissue pinch and envelope room set the volume your chest can carry safely. For most patients that ceiling sits below the route's limit — the sizing page explains the corridor. Patients whose corridor and goals exceed the route are told so and offered the fold incision; the route never decides the implant.
